Thanks to all of Ray’s friends, it didn’t take an entire day to move! YAY! 5 of his friends were on hand to help (I did tempt them with coffee and donuts at the apartment, then beer, pizza, and wings at the house). I say partially successful because there were still little things laying around the apartment that were not in boxes or bags and everyone kept asking “Is this going”? There were a few things we were getting rid of so I put signs on them “Not moving” haha. We had a pretty good start, up and down the 3 flights of stairs, until it got down to those little things. We had extra boxes and bags so I was kind of last minute packing as they were carrying things out. At one point the truck, my car, and Ray’s car were all full so we called it quits. Whatever was left we could come back and get later. The house was the easiest part. Our friend Matt was literally pushing boxes down the ramp, that was right at the garage opening, and it was almost like an assembly line. The unpacking was undoubtedly quicker! Here is the empty truck (slash party pad) once everything was out.
Then our bed frame and night stands came right on time from Cohen’s furniture (they quoted 12:30 – 4:30, but got here at 12:45). They were fast!
The only thing we were waiting for was the mattress, they quoted me 12 o’clock. I waited until 1, because we had to go back to the apartment to get more things, and called. I waited for about a half hour, and when I finally got to talk to someone, he said they did not have the bed at the warehouse and someone would call me back Monday. I FLIPPED. Eventually gave the phone to Ray, who said cancel the order. We called every mattress place in town to see if they had the one we wanted in stock, and we could pick it up with the moving truck. WRONG. Every place said at least a day because they didn’t have it in stock and would have to order it. So after some complaining and moaning, we decided to go buy the mattress we are going to put in our guest bedroom, and headed over to Sleepy’s. They had already started their Black Friday sale, so we got one for a pretty good deal. Just not the one we wanted…. We have been sleeping on it since Saturday, and it works for now. I called the mattress place Monday to see if they cancelled the order, which they did not. But after talking to the guy Monday morning, he had to call another distributor, but he did have it ready to deliver to me the next day, today (Tuesday). I also got a free comforter for my troubles (I think it should have been more than that but I will take it). The distributor called me and quoted me 7 – 9, which was perfect because I work at 10. They called me around 8 am today and re-quoted me 10:40 – 1:40. I just cannot win.. I live about 15 minutes away from work so I figured I would just come home on my lunch break since they call when they are close… Enough about the bed…
The house is coming together slowly, but I do feel overwhelmed with the unpacking. We got the kitchen pretty much unpacked and started a little upstairs with the bathrooms. This cabinet will probably never stay this organized, sorry for the fuzzy picture.
The dining room doesn’t look terrible, but all the boxes are in the front living room and in all the rooms upstairs. Back story about the dining room table, this is my grandparents dining room table that they had custom made in South Carolina (not sure what furniture place). It is at least 50 years old. It has several leafs to make the table really long. I have had many a Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, birthday dinner at this table and it has a lot of sentimental value. I plan on reupholstering the chairs, and maybe put a cushioned backing on them.
This is Ray after moving the mattress upstairs. We were tired, and it was cold, so he was laying on the heating vent.
I think we have been to Home Depot about 6 times over the weekend, and we keep having to go back. I did have a list on Sunday, but it’s the little things you don’t think of that rectify another trip. We bought new door handles for all of the upstairs doors. They are all brass and kind of stuck, who knows how old they are. We also bought new front door and garage door handles, so we would have new locks. The seller must have made 123,456 spare keys, she handed us a lanyard of them all at settlement… We plan on handing them down to the next person who buys a home, as long as they like brass! We also needed new trash cans that are heavy and that lock, so that Raphie can not get into them. As well as several other odds and ends. Sunday was also our Thanksgiving with Ray’s parents because his mom works on Thanksgiving (curse those darn stores that are open). Thursday we will be taking my grandmother out to Villari’s in NJ. She likes to do the restaurants for some reason, I guess it is less hassle to clean up? I would have liked to host at our house, but I am kind of glad I didn’t, there is no way we will be unpacked! So I hope to have more progress pictures soon…. If only this mattress would get here one day, fingers crossed!
Some empty boxes in the entryway and the lanyard of keys!
Have a happy Thanksgiving!
